School Board Summary

  Saluda County School District Board of Trustees met November 15, 2021 at the Saluda Middle School cafeteria.
  Following is the meeting summary:
  Dr. Kathy Coleman called the meeting to order.  Mr. James Holloway gave the invocation.  The minutes from the October 18, 2021 Board Meeting were approved.  All Board Members were present.
  Superintendent’s Report
Budget Update
  •The current Schedule of Revenue and Expenditures as of October 31, 2021 were presented to the Board
  •The finance audit will be presented at the January board meeting.
  •ESSER III funds will be used to cover some maintenance repairs and HVAC needs.
 •We are seeking a grant from the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission for 8 defib-rillators, “stop the bleed” kit, non-slip footwear, and online workplace safety training.
   Student Support Service Update
  Mrs. Elizabeth Schumpert presented the Board with data on our district’s special populations. She also stated while our schools have demonstrated growth in serving our Hispanic students, there is a need for additional certified ESOL Teachers for the 2022-2023 school year per South Carolina Department of Education requirements.

 District Update
  •Dr. Livingston congratulated our schools on a job well done with their Veterans Day Programs last Thursday.
  •We will have a district wide Career Day this coming Wednesday (November 7)
  •Saluda County Schools will be closed for Thanksgiving Break November 24-26
  •Our Covid numbers are decreasing. We will hold an informational night for parents on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:00pm at Saluda Elementary School on the pediatric Covid vaccine.
  •Our fall sports teams and band did a great job this season. Each team and the band advanced to the playoffs.
  •Dr. Livingston and the Board presented Mrs. Sandra Black with a plaque for her 28 years of service with Saluda School District as Executive Assistant and Board Secretary. She will be retiring in December.

Textbook Adoption
  The Board voted to approve the following textbooks:
  K-5 Health – Great Body Shop
  6-8 Health – Glencoe Teen Health
  9-12 Health – Glencoe Health
  Approval of any item(s) from Executive Session
  There were no items to approve from Executive Session.
  The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:45 p.m.
