Students Take Part In
Stuffed Animals Project

By Ann Forrest Watkins

I received a call from Marsha Riley about a post that she had seen in regards to giving the residents of a nursing home a stuffed animal for Easter and how they enjoyed them.
Of course, I jumped right on that and said that we should do it.  She was all for that.  We had discussed asking for helping funds on face book.  I received a message from Chloe Young wanting to know if it would be acceptable for her honor students to take that on as a fund-raising project.  Guess what I said?!
The ball is really rolling now.  The trip to Dollar Tree shopping was in the near future as we determined how many we needed....148ish.  Now shopping is complete and we would still accept donations. Soon we heard back that her students had collected 145$ by selling shamrock candy grams.  WOW ... what were the chances of that.
I told her that we would like to take a picture for the Sentinel and also SES’s paper.  So on March 24th I went over with all of the stuffed animals and scattered them all around the students for the photo op.    These students are members of the NATIONAL HONORARY SOCIETY which means they have to have had a 3.5 grade average last year and are required to do some community service.    After meeting these students, one goes away feeling as if our future will be in good hands.  Another example of SALUDA PRIDE.
